Question:
I have a Gateway laptop using windows vista. I have a home computer and my laptop gets internet connection from a router connected to my home computer. Even though my laptop says I am connected to the internet, when I try to pull a website up, it does not work. My home computer is working just fine, though. I also clicked on Diagnose Why Windows Is Not Working and it couldn't find a problem. If anyone knows how to fix this, please help.
Additional Details
I don't have wifi. It connected through cable. (router)
Answer:
Do u exactly remember when did it stop working ? If at all, then goto start--->run--->restore---> rstrui.exe--->restore my computer to and earlier date --> choose a date and click restore.. it'll do it.. which is the best and foremost option. Even though u don't get it ???? There might be a large no. of chances that would cause this A few of them are
1. Check the connection at both the lappy with cable and also router with cable Due to loose connection ur computer might get into the limited or no connectivity signal and u might not recognize it due to some settings u have given it, so check them.
2.Go to the network connections and go to the properties of it and in this window now select "show notification icon ...." and "notify when my.... "
3.check up if at all u r getting any packets (sent/receive data) when u tried to open a website.
4.check ur proxy settings in the browser.
5.clear all the cookies, history, cache, saved form data and anything else if it is...
6. try to restart ur network router, disable and enable ur network in the pc.
7. Even though if nothing had worked then restart ur system.
8. I'm sure that this step could anyway help u... goto start-->run-->msconfig.exe-->services ---> enable these services, workstation, tcp/ip netbios helper, net logon, network connections, network local awareness, ntlm security support, remote auto access.., remote access connection, routing and remote access, remote procedure call (RPC) locator, remote procedure call, windows firewall, internet connection sharing, performance logs and alerts, terminal services, web client, and network provisioning service. now restart ur system.
9.Now even u couldn't do that then goto msconfig and serivces tab and disable all ur firewalls and again restart ur system.
10. This is the final step that i could tell u to solve... Try reinstalling the ethernet driver if needed and better install the same driver u have worked on till now, if not try other one..
Now u didn't get it ?? Then it's definitely due to virus, spam or some other malfunctioning, u better take ur laptop to some expert like me or goto ur network administrator or ur Internet network service provider(ISP)
